SMS FITTINGS

SMS fittings are a type of hygienic stainless steel pipe coupling widely used in Europe and the UK for industries requiring stringent cleanliness standards. They are identifiable by their round slotted nut and provide a smooth, crevice-free internal bore.

  • Standard: SMS fittings are manufactured to the Swedish Standard SMS 1145.
  • Material: Wetted parts (male part and liner) are typically made from grade 316 or 316L stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance, while the round nut is made from 304 stainless steel.
  • Components: A complete SMS union consists of four main parts: a round slotted nut, a male part, a liner and a unique square or L-section gasket seal.
  • Seal Materials: The captive seal design uses various materials to suit different applications, including EPDM (standard), Nitrile, Viton® (FKM), and PTFE. Metal-detectable versions are also available.
