CARBON STEEL

Carbon steel hex fasteners are typically finished with black oxide or zinc plating for corrosion resistance.

Common strength grades for carbon steel fasteners are:

  • Grade 8.8: The most popular grade which is now much more frequently used than the older mild steel grade 4.6.
  • Grade 10.9: Provides higher tensile strength and is frequently used in automotive and engineering applications.
  • Grade 12.9: This is a high-tensile grade, made from alloy carbon steel, and is used when maximum strength and high mechanical properties are required.
