DIN FITTINGS

DIN hygienic fittings are a widely used type of sanitary pipe connection throughout Europe, particularly in the food, dairy, and brewing industries.

They are designed for quick assembly, high pressure resistance, and easy cleaning.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Standard: The fittings are made to the German standard DIN 11851.
  • Material: "Wetted" parts, such as the weld male and weld liner, are manufactured from grade 316 or 316L stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance. The accompanying round slotted nut is made from Grade 304 stainless steel.
  • Sealing: They use a distinctive "D" shaped joint ring as standard. Lipped (P-section) seals are also available to create a flush, crevice-free internal joint.
  • Pressure Rating: Fully forged unions can withstand high pressures, for example, DN 10-DN 40 are rated for up to 40 Bar, while DN 50-DN 100 are rated for up to 25 Bar at 20°C.
  • Size Range: Available in a comprehensive range of both metric sizes (DN 10 to DN 150) and imperial tube sizes (1" to 4").

Components of a DIN 11851 Union

A complete DIN 11851 union consists of four main parts:

  • Round Slotted Nut: The securing component, tightened with a C-spanner or hook spanner.
  • Weld Male: The externally threaded part that carries the seal.
  • Weld Liner: A part with a conical face to effect the hygienic joint.
  • Hygienic Seal/Gasket: The "D" section or lipped seal, typically made of Nitrile (NBR) as standard, with options for EPDM, Viton® (FKM), Silicone, and PTFE to suit various chemical and temperature applications.
