WING NUT

Wing nuts are specialized fasteners featuring two "wings" that provide leverage for tool-free manual tightening.

They are designed for applications requiring frequent assembly, disassembly, or quick adjustments.

Note: Wing nuts are not suitable for high-vibration or heavy-load applications where high torque is required, as they are only hand-tightened.

Common Material Grades

The material you choose depends on the environment (corrosion risk) and the required strength:

  • Stainless Steel: The most durable and corrosion-resistant option.
    • A2 (Grade 304): A standard "18/8" stainless steel for general outdoor use, food processing, and DIY projects.
    • A4 (Grade 316): Often called Marine Grade; it contains molybdenum for high resistance to saltwater and chemicals.
  • Steel: Typically less expensive and used for general-purpose indoor assembly.
    • Mild Steel (Grade 4): Common for light-duty applications; often finished with Bright Zinc Plating (BZP) to provide a basic layer of rust protection.
  • Brass: Offers an attractive gold finish and excellent corrosion resistance. It is frequently used in plumbing and marine settings where aesthetics or non-sparking properties are important.
