RIVET BUSH

Rivet bushes (often called hank bushes or anchor nuts) are threaded inserts designed to provide strong, permanent female threads in sheet metal panels that are too thin to be tapped conventionally.

Unlike self-clinching fasteners, rivet bushes are secured by "peening" (crimping) a central spigot over the back of the sheet material.

This makes them suitable for very thin materials (down to 0.5mm) and for harder metals like stainless steel where self-clinchers might fail.

Common Types & Shapes

  • Hexagon Rivet Bush: The six-pointed head bites into the sheet metal when installed, providing high resistance to rotational (torsional) force.
  • Round Serrated Face: Features sharp serrations on the contact face. These are ideal for flush-fit applications where high torque resistance is still required.
  • Tank (Closed End) Bush: Has a sealed back to create a gas or liquid-tight barrier, making it suitable for enclosures or tanks.

Material & Finish Options

Bushes are typically selected to match or complement the sheet metal material to prevent galvanic corrosion.

  • Steel (Self-Colour or Zinc Plated): Cost-effective for general internal or external use.
  • A2 & A4 Stainless Steel: Essential for high-corrosion environments. A4 (Marine Grade) is specifically for salt-water exposure.

Technical Specifications

Rivet bushes are manufactured to suit specific sheet gauges. Using the wrong spigot length for your material thickness will lead to a loose or failed joint.
