An SMS blank disc is a circular stainless steel component used to seal off the end of a pipeline or a port in an SMS hygienic union.
Function and Material
Function: The blank disc is inserted into the SMS male part and is held securely in place by the round slotted SMS nut. A hygienic L-section or square-section seal is compressed between the male part and the blank to create a reliable, leak-proof, and hygienic closure. This is essential for temporary closures during maintenance, during Clean-In-Place (CIP) processes, or for unused tank connections.
Material: The blank is typically made from high-grade 316 or 316L stainless steel. This material is highly corrosion-resistant and suitable for "wetted" parts that come into contact with the product in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications. The accompanying nut, which is an external component, is usually made from 304 stainless steel.
