An SMS male is the externally threaded component of a hygienic union, designed for creating permanent, sanitary connections in stainless steel piping systems, as per the Swedish Manufacturing Standard (SMS 1145).
It is an integral part of the complete union, fitting with an SMS liner, a round slotted nut, and a gasket seal.
Key Features and Materials
Standards: Manufactured to the SMS 1145 standard.
Material: Typically made from Grade 316 or 316L stainless steel for high corrosion resistance, as it is a "wetted" part that contacts the product.
Design: Features a male thread on the outside to connect with the round slotted SMS nut. It has a smooth internal finish to maintain hygienic flow conditions and minimise the risk of bacterial growth.
Connection: Most commonly a "weld male" design, with a spigot end for permanent welding to the stainless steel tube.
