Wedge nuts (also known as V-nuts or Vee nuts) are specialized fasteners designed for suspending services—such as pipes, cable trays, and HVAC units—from composite steel floor decking.
Common Types & Decking Compatibility
Because different metal decking profiles have different internal dimensions, wedge nuts come in specific sizes and shapes.
Standard Wedge Nuts: Typically sized around 24mm (top) x 19mm (base). These are compatible with popular decking profiles like Kingspan Multideck 50-V3, Tata Steel ComFlor 51, and SMD R51.
Mini Wedge Nuts: Smaller versions (approx. 19mm top width) designed for shallower profiles like Richard Lees Ribdeck 60 or Quickspan Q60.
Strut Channel Wedge Nuts: A variant designed to lock into the profiles of strut channels (like Unistrut) for quick, tool-free installation of support frameworks.
Key Specifications
Material: Usually made from mild steel with a Bright Zinc Plated (BZP) or yellow passivated finish for indoor corrosion resistance.
Thread Sizes: Most commonly available in M6, M8, M10, and M12 to accept standard threaded rods.
Installation: They are inserted into the decking channel and rotated 90 degrees to wedge into place. The threaded rod is then screwed in until it touches the top of the decking to lock the nut securely.
