An IDF male is the externally threaded component of an International Dairy Federation (IDF) hygienic union. It is engineered to create a crevice-free, smooth-bore connection in stainless steel pipework, making it superior to RJT fittings for high-hygiene applications.
Key Specifications
Standards: Manufactured in accordance with BS 4825 Part 4 and ISO 2853.
Material: Usually crafted from Grade 316 or 316L stainless steel for all "wetted" (product-contact) surfaces to provide maximum corrosion resistance.
Design: It features a specialized external thread (often an ACME form thread) designed to mate with an IDF Hex Nut.
Sealing: It uses a T-shaped joint ring (typically Nitrile, EPDM, or Viton) that fits flush with the internal tube bore, eliminating "bug traps" where bacteria could accumulate.
