An IDF nut is a large, hexagonal nut made from Grade 304 stainless steel that forms the primary connecting mechanism of an IDF (International Dairy Federation) union.

It secures the hygienic pipe fitting by threading onto the male part and compressing a T-shaped seal to create a crevice-free, leak-proof joint. 

Key Features and Specifications

  • Material: The nut is made of Grade 304 stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance, while the "wetted" internal components of the union (male part and liner) are made from the more corrosion-resistant Grade 316 stainless steel.
  • Standard: Manufactured to British Standard BS 4825 Part 4 and ISO 2853 for hygienic applications.
  • Design: Its hexagonal shape allows for easy and secure tightening or loosening with a standard spanner, making maintenance in food, drink, and pharmaceutical industries efficient. A round slotted nut version is also available for specific applications.

Compatibility: Designed to work with the IDF male part, liner, and T-style seal. The seal material is typically Nitrile as standard, with EPDM, Viton®, and PTFE options available for different temperature and chemical resistance needs.
