Hygienic non-return valves also known as check valves, are spring-loaded sanitary components made of 316/316L stainless steel that prevent backflow of product in process lines to maintain hygiene and protect equipment.
They feature highly polished internal surfaces and food-grade seals that comply with FDA requirements.
Key Features and Materials
Function: They automatically allow flow in one direction only. When pressure is exerted on a spring-loaded piston or disc, the valve opens; when flow stops or reverses, the spring and back pressure push the disc or piston back onto its seat to seal the line.
Material: The body, piston, and spring are typically manufactured from Grade 316 or 316L stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance.
Seals: Gaskets and seals are made from food-grade elastomers with FDA approval, such as EPDM (standard), Nitrile, Viton® (FKM), Silicone, or PTFE.
Hygiene: Designed with a smooth internal finish (often to 0.4 micron) and free from dead zones, which prevents bacteria buildup and is suitable for Clean-In-Place (CIP) applications.
Pressure Rating: Maximum working pressure is typically around 10 Bar (150 PSI).
Hygienic check valves are highly modular and can be customized with various end connections to integrate with different international standards:
Plain Weld Ends: For permanent installation into pipework.
