DIN SEAL

A DIN hygienic seal (or joint ring) is a specialized gasket designed for DIN 11851 unions.

Unlike flat gaskets, standard DIN seals have a semi-circular cross-section, often called a "D-Section", which fits into the recessed groove of the DIN male part.

Seal Profiles

  • Standard D-Section: The most common profile, providing a high-pressure seal between the conical liner and the male part.
  • Lipped (P-Section): Designed for higher hygiene requirements, the "lip" fills the internal gap between the male and liner to create a flush, crevice-free bore, ideal for Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems Pipeline Products.

Material Selection

Materials are chosen based on the temperature and chemical nature of the process fluid:

  • EPDM: The industry standard for dairy and brewing; excellent for steam and hot water (up to +150°C) Valves Online.
  • Nitrile (NBR): Suitable for fats, oils, and general food use where high temperatures aren't required.
  • Viton™ (FKM): High chemical and heat resistance for aggressive media.
  • Silicone: Used for extreme temperature flexibility, though it has lower mechanical strength.
  • PTFE: Near-total chemical inertness, often used as an envelope over a rubber core for flexibility.
