ASA150

The maximum working pressure of an ASA Class 150 flange (equivalent to ASME B16.5 Class 150) is highly dependent on the material and the operating temperature. The "150" designation is a class number, not a direct pressure value in PSI or bar across all conditions.

The following values are based on non-shock pressure and temperature ratings per the ASME B16.5 standard:
Temperature Range (°C) Carbon Steel (e.g., ASTM A105) Max PressureStainless Steel (e.g., ASTM A182 F304/F316) Max Pressure
-29°C to 38°C (Ambient) 19.6 bar (approx. 285 psi) 15.9 bar (approx. 230 psi)
100°C 17.7 bar (approx. 257 psi) 13.3 bar
200°C 13.8 bar (approx. 200 psi) 11.2 bar
300°C 10.0 bar (approx. 145 psi) 10.0 bar
400°C 6.5 bar (approx. 94 psi) 6.5 bar

Key Points:
  • At ambient temperature (up to approx. 38°C/100°F), a carbon steel Class 150 flange is rated for about 285 psi (19.6 bar).
  • The flange is only rated for exactly its nominal 150 psi around a much higher temperature of approximately 260°C (500°F).
